Processing and characterization of highly oriented fibres of biodegradable nanocomposites

2015

Abstract Biodegradable polymeric materials are becoming day by day ever more important in packaging, agriculture, single-use cutleries and other large consumer applications. The major part of those materials is used under the form of film, i.e. subjected to elongational flow, but the main problem is that they often offer poor mechanical properties. Adding nanofillers, like Multi Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) may solve this problem but only if there is a full control of their orientation inside the material. Aim of this work is to investigate the processing-properties-morphology relationships for a system prepared under elongation flow of MaterBi and commercial MWCNTs. The materials were …

A comprehensive experimental study of the rheological behaviour of HDPE.

1986

Extensional properties of four high density polyethylenes with different molecular weights and molecular weight distributions are presented. The samples have already been well characterized in shear and non-isothermal extensional flow. The data were collected at 180 °C for elongational rates between 3 · 10−1 and 10−4s−1. Some qualitative and quantitative generalizations of the results are given.

Amorphous silica between confining walls and under shear: a computer simulation study

2002

Molecular dynamics computer simulations are used to investigate a silica melt confined between walls at equilibrium and in a steady-state Poisseuille flow. The walls consist of point particles forming a rigid face-centered cubic lattice and the interaction of the walls with the melt atoms is modelled such that the wall particles have only a weak bonding to those in the melt, i.e. much weaker than the covalent bonding of a Si-O unit. We observe a pronounced layering of the melt near the walls. This layering, as seen in the total density profile, has a very irregular character which can be attributed to a preferred orientational ordering of SiO4 tetrahedra near the wall. On intermediate lengt…

Shear viscosity of polybutyleneterephthalate/liquid crystal polymer blends

1989

Viscosity measurements have been carried out on blends of polybuty-leneterephthalate (PBT) and a liquid crystalline copolyesteramide (LCP). The flow curves of the blends with LCP content larger than 20%, show a behavior similar to that of the pure LCP, with a rapid rise of the viscosity at low shear rates. The viscosity-composition curves exhibit a deep minimum at low LCP content which may be mainly attributed to the lack of interactions between the two phases.

A first estimate of $\eta/s$ in Au+Au reactions at E$_{\rm lab}=1.23$ $A$GeV

2020

The HADES experiment at GSI has recently provided data on the flow coefficients $v_1,...,v_4$ for protons in Au+Au reactions at $E_{\rm lab} = 1.23$~$A$GeV (or $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=2.4$ GeV). This data allows to estimate the shear viscosity over entropy ratio, $\eta/s$ at low energies via a coarse graining analysis of the UrQMD transport simulations of the flow harmonics in comparison to the experimental data. By this we can provide for the first time an estimate of $\eta/s\approx0.65\pm0.15$ (or $(8\pm2)\,(4\pi)^{-1}$) at such low energies.

Pinning down QCD-matter shear viscosity in A + A collisions via EbyE fluctuations using pQCD + saturation + hydrodynamics

2015

We compute the initial energy densities produced in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions from NLO perturbative QCD using a saturation conjecture to control soft particle production, and describe the subsequent space-time evolution of the system with hydrodynamics, event by event. The resulting centrality dependence of the low-$p_T$ observables from this pQCD + saturation + hydro ("EKRT") framework are then compared simultaneously to the LHC and RHIC measurements. With such an analysis we can test the initial state calculation, and constrain the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity-to-entropy ratio $\eta/s$ of QCD matter. Using these constraints from the current RHIC and LHC measu…

Event-by-event fluctuations in a perturbative QCD plus saturation plus hydrodynamics model : Determining QCD matter shear viscosity in ultrarelativis…

2016

We introduce an event-by-event perturbative-QCD + saturation + hydro ("EKRT") framework for ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, where we compute the produced fluctuating QCD-matter energy densities from next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD using a saturation conjecture to control soft-particle production and describe the space-time evolution of the QCD matter with dissipative fluid dynamics, event by event. We perform a simultaneous comparison of the centrality dependence of hadronic multiplicities, transverse momentum spectra, and flow coefficients of the azimuth-angle asymmetries against the LHC and RHIC measurements. We compare also the computed event-by-event probability distribut…

Temperature dependence of η/s of strongly interacting matter: Effects of the equation of state and the parametric form of (η/s)(T)

2020

We investigate the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio $\ensuremath{\eta}/s$ using a piecewise linear parametrization. To determine the optimal values of the parameters and the associated uncertainties, we perform a global Bayesian model-to-data comparison on $\mathrm{Au}+\mathrm{Au}$ collisions at $\sqrt{{s}_{\mathrm{NN}}}=200$ GeV and $\mathrm{Pb}+\mathrm{Pb}$ collisions at 2.76 TeV and 5.02 TeV, using a $2+1\mathrm{D}$ hydrodynamical model with the Eskola-Kajantie-Ruuskanen-Tuominen (EKRT) initial state. We provide three new parametrizations of the equation of state (EoS) based on contemporary lattice results and hadron resonance gas, and use them and t…

Critical Dynamics in a Binary Fluid: Simulations and Finite-Size Scaling

2006

We report comprehensive simulations of the critical dynamics of a symmetric binary Lennard-Jones mixture near its consolute point. The self-diffusion coefficient exhibits no detectable anomaly. The data for the shear viscosity and the mutual-diffusion coefficient are fully consistent with the asymptotic power laws and amplitudes predicted by renormalization-group and mode-coupling theories {\it provided} finite-size effects and the background contribution to the relevant Onsager coefficient are suitably accounted for. This resolves a controversy raised by recent molecular simulations.
